Expedition

Decided to visit this hash as it was another ca. 2-hour expedition – I plan to attempt every hash that takes less than 2 hours from now on, given I have the time. I took the A1 train to Bad Bramstedt, where I got onto the bus to Hartenholm (and had to deal with a very unfriendly bus driver), finishing my audiobook on the way and arriving after just over an hour of travelling. Then I cycled 2.1 km to the hash, the last 700 m on an uneven forest track beside the road. The hash lay only 70 m from the road, and only 25 m from a forest road. I immediately noticed that the trees between the forest road and the fir plantation had been cut down; the area was desolate. This made me sad, because I'm a huge forest-lover. I walked over the hash just beside the high fence to a fir tree plantation and took pictures. Many of the trees of inside the plantation had been freshly planted and were very small; they are probably to be used as christmas trees. I walked into the forest across the road a bit and took some more photos, but wasn't really able to enjoy it because of a loud woodcutter working nearby.

At over 57 km2, the Segeberger Forst is by far the second-largest forest in Schleswig-Holstein, closely behind the Sachsenwald, and one of very few truly large forests in timberland-poor northwestern Germany. I didn't have much time and had head back to the bus station after a few minutes. When my planned bus didn't arrive, I tried to look it up on Google (where I'd found it), but it wasn't there, which worried me. But thankfully the HVV app said it was only late, and indeed it arrived shortly with 9 minutes delay. I got off in Kaltenkirchen and managed to catch a train south just before it departed.
