Plans

This one's only 40 m from the border to my hometown, and 2.5 km from my home – the third-closest yet! Should be a matter of under 40 minutes.

Expedition

I considered walking to this hash, but didn't feel like spending almost two hours and ended up cycling the 3.8 km late afternoon. The hash unfortunately lay on a crop field with young seedlings which I didn't want to damage, and the nearby road was unexpectedly busy with traffic, pedestrians, and riders from a nearby riding centre. I walked 110 m along the edge of the field, out of sight of the huge farm on the other side of the road, and then carefully navigated the 35 m onto the field, trying hard to always step between the young plants (think I managed fairly well). I didn't have to search long for the exact spot, but just after I had taken the screenshot, a van stopped at the edge of the field and got me anxious, so I quickly hurried off on a tractor lane in the opposite direction. But when I arrived at the edge, the van had disappeared. I took photos with Norma and then walked back along the edge of the field. While cycling home I listened to Andy Serkis narrating the destruction of the One Ring in the climax of the audiobook of Tolkien's The Return of the King (absolutely fantastic, both book and narrator!).
