Location

In the forest close to the Naturfreundehaus Billtalhöhe.

Participants

Plans

The Hash point was close to a path in a relatively nearby forest, and the sunny Saturday was beckoning me outside.

Expedition

To the hash point

I took my bike and rode to the local Train Station. From there only three stops down the line i transferred to a bus to finally arrive in the quaint town of Königstein (im Taunus). Already in the bus there were some passengers in beautiful medival robes, turns out in the castle ruins of Königsstein there was a medival fair this weekend. But with my bike and without proper attire i did not go into the fair.

From the beautiful old town center i followed the Woogbach around the hill the castle ruins sit on, with some amazing scenry along the way. Once i crossed the Rombach my path got more intense, climbing 200m without respite, until finally reaching the hash point.

At the hash point

The hash point was in the forest about 20m off the path. Pretty easy to get to as it was dry, and there was not a lot of underbrush. The exact hash point however was prety much in the middle of some bushes/small trees. Still i was able to get pretty much exactly on it. Even if its just a random spot in the forest like many others its still very nice, with soft moss under my feet, the sun glitening throught the leaves and birds chirping on the wind.

I arrived early at 15:33, so after taking the prerequisite pictures i enjoyed my deserved afternoon lunch break. After waiting until 16:10 with no other hash point hunter showing up i got back on my bike to make the longer but mostly downhill trip back to Oberursel where i transferred from train to bus.

Back home

Riding past the Naturfreundehaus Billtalhöhe i got to the B8 (Limburger straße) which was exiting, because super smooth asphalt steep downhilll, so high speed, but also a busy "highway" without any seperated bike lanes. Fortunatley i only needed to ride on it for 1,2 km which flew by at quite high speeds. Branching onto forest paths again i rode up my last small climb into Falkenstein. A lot of this entire Region is quite wealty, but wow, there are some VERY nice Houses in Falkenstein. It is a prime location next to the forest, on top of the hill with pretty great views.

I followed the Arbeiterweg out of Falkenstein which turned into the Kaiserin-Friedrich-Weg and finally the Altkönigweg. At that last crossing, at the Emminghaushütte i noticed the major blunder i had with this trip: The superb Flowtrail Bad-Endbach starts there (and actually goes in the right direction), but i was on my normal city/touring bike, not my mountainbike. Unfortunately i did not notice i would be coming across that Flowtrail on this trip so did not think to bring the mountainbike. So unfortunately i had to skip that, and ride straight for my destination of Oberursel. With a few minutes left before catching my train i had a look around the historic town center of Oberursel, its very nice, very well worth another expedition.

Overall the nearly 14km ride back was pure bliss because it was pretty much downhill the whole way, definitely made the richt call in that regard.
