Expedition

Danatar

I have not done any expeditions for a loooong time, because either there was no time or there were no interesting and reachable hashpoints. But since today was Mouseover Day for the 15th anniversary of geohashing, I decided to do this expedition even though it was rather far. First I cycled to Dresden main station. There I bought the "Elbe-Labe ticket" (which is valid for public transport both in the region around Dresden in Germany and around Ústí nad Labem in the Czech Republic) and boarded the regional bus. That bus drove up the mountains on the German side and then down on the Czech side, until we were in Teplice. That was rather easy. Then I walked through Teplice until I was near the hashpoint around quarter to four. I managed to find the spot right at the fence of a rather large playground, although it couldn't decide on which side of the playground's fence it was going to be. As I was stalking around weirdly on that playground, I was rather happy that the only visitors of the playground, a woman with two children, were not playing near the spot. It would have been very difficult to explain geohashing in Czech.

I then sat on a bench for a few minutes until it was 4 p.m. No other geohashers arrived. A bit later I walked to the nearest train station. From there I took the train to Ústí, where I had half an hour of waiting time in the warm sun before taking another train to Dresden.

This expedition also won the border geohash achievement, which is not very difficult in Europe. I almost missed seeing the border because the small sign was on the other side of the bus.
