It is named after Captain Nemo in Twenty-thousand Leagues Under the Sea and The Mysterious Island, who is in turn named after the Latin word translated as 'no-one' -- the word used in some translations of the Odyssey for the pseudonym Odysseus adopted when speaking to the Cyclops.
