Talk:Public transport geohash achievement

Must the geohash be reached _solely_ by transit, or can the person walk, unicycle, skateboard or hitchhike to reach points beyond the reach of transit? In other words, is this achievement available only when a geohash falls exactly on a transit line or at a transit stop?

I think it should apply to using public transit as the primary means of travel to the hashpoint, even if the geohasher has to walk a few kilometres beyond the stop in order to reach it. Robyn 04:03, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Going by ferry would only count as water if the geohash itself is at a point covered by water. If crossing water were the only criterion every hash in my graticule would be a water geohash! Robyn, 23 July 2008

Agreed, you can't just take a boat for part of the travel. I changed PTG and WG to better explain that. But a ferry should count as "mass transit", even if it's not literally public transportation. So a taxi doesn't count, but, say, Amtrak would, if the geohash is on the line or in/near a station and you get off the train there. -- Jevanyn
Excellent. We're agreed on water hashes. I'm okay with trains, too. And sure a ferry is mass transit, but it's more like a bridge than a bus. I mean, you drive your car onto a ferry. Maybe if you walk or bike onto the ferry that would qualify. I suspect we just need an entirely separate "ferry" achievement. -Robyn 18:04, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
