Rename

I'm proposing renaming this greticule. [are named based on the largest or most well known place located within them] I think Wheaton Springs has a couple of houses in it. A brief check could not reveal it's population.

  • Primm, Nevada Population 2k, central to graticule. I argue this is the most-well-known place mostly in the graticule (Mojave, Las Vegas, and Henderson are mostly in other graticules)
  • Anthem, Nevada Population 8k, mostly just a suburb of Las Vegas, most people haven't heard of it. I argue this is the largest place (by population) that is mostly in the graticule.

So, I'll give some other people a chance to weigh in, but I think I'm the most active person in this graticule ever, so maybe I'll just claim I am consensus. McKay (talk) 18:53, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Since you asked, my preference would be Anthem > Sandy Valley > Primm > Wheaton Springs. It definitely should not be Wheaton Springs, I couldn't even find a Wikipedia page for them.
I think the most potential of future Geohashers comes from Las Vegas residents who would go Geohashing close to Las Vegas, so closer to Anthem than to any of the more central places. It wouldn't be the first time that a graticule is named after a city on the edge, e.g. Bielefeld, Germany (I should add that I am not particular happy with 52,8 being named after Bielefeld since I grew up in that graticule but nowhere near Bielefeld, which is on the edge, but I also think it would be unfair to name it after another city.)
Sandy Valley has a higher population than Primm, so I think it should have a higher priority over Primm, both being more or less central.
However, Primm is on a large road so I imagine a lot more of people have driven through Primm than through Sandy Valley. If Primm is famous despite its small population, than Primm should have a higher Priority than Sandy Valley and maybe also Anthem. But I cannot judge that, I lack the local knowledge. It ultimately is your decision, McKay, I am fine with any option that you decide on. --Fippe (talk) 20:50, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
