Report

These were exciting times for the Sydney graticule. Our third potential geohash in a period of only four days! The weather was still pretty rainy, but it was a Saturday and nothing would deter us from the opportunity for a successful meetup. Kate and CJ agreed to attend, and Rikkyc had also said that he may come (although he never appeared).

Kate and CJ arrived at the agreed time, and fortunately the rain eased from torrential to light drizzle. We soon located the laneway which the hashpoint was located off, and discovered that it was just inside someone's backyard next to their garage which was behind a brick fence. We were able to get within 3 metres of the exact point by standing right against the wall. CJ was satisfied with this effort (considering it was now starting to rain more heavily). Kate however, had other ideas on her mind - she wanted to get to the exact location.

The two geohashers (now getting progressively more wet) began to brainstorm excuses for randomly appearing in someone's backyard. "If only we had a frisbee" (yeah that'd be believable in the rain, and a small laneway). "Perhaps if I just throw my shoe into the yard, then they'll have to let me in to get it" (Kate, why would your shoe end up in their yard in the pouring rain?). By peering over the wall we could see that the owners were at home sitting in their back room, and so we decided to simply walk around to the front of the house and try our luck at just asking permission to do what we needed to.

After walking around to the other street at the front on the house we rang the doorbell and were greeted by a teenage girl. We explained to her what we wanted to do, and she seemed to think it was a perfectly normal request, but said she'd have to check with her parents. Pretty soon her mum came to the door and again we explained what we wanted to do. She seemed a little more puzzled, but was perfectly happy to let us through, as long as we closed the gate behind us on the way out. Woohoo! We went over to the garage and got a photo on the exact location.

Our second successful ambassador geohash!
