About

My second Irish expedition. I live in Waterford graticule, but I work 30 kilometers to the east in New Ross, which is situated in another graticule. So when on saturday I saw that the point was generated just outside this place, moreover, only about 1km from my workplace, I knew there is another adventure waiting for me! And of course that was a perfect opportunity for the Déjà vu geohash achievement!

Pre-Expedition

Saturday, 2009.06.06. I'm working at nights, so I arrived in New Ross a little earlier to get to the place while it was still bright. Google maps where showing the fields, so I wasn't expecting any troubles. Of course - the maps were lying. Again. The fields were turned into building places for new homes. And my geohash was just in front of one of those. Just perfect. It started to rain and there were some people hanging around, so I took just one picture and ran to work.

Afterward I spent the next day preparing for the real expedition. It was a virgin graticule, so I was determined to make it happen against all odds. I needed stealth skills to get to infiltrate the building place, I needed to somehow get over the barrier (ok, it was only a single rope hanging there, but still!) and I needed to get away in one piece and undetected. And luckily I had a learning materials for all those above - so I spent the whole day training:

Expedition

I was prepared, I was more than ready! I spent a night working and in the morning I left for my adventure. I was trying to convince my coworker to join me, but he decided that after 8 hours of work the idea of walking is just not his cup of tea. Quitter. I already knew the road and this time it was not raining, so 20 minutes later I was in front of the enemy base. And waaaait a moment - I've been here before - it's déjà vu!!! [ Except that I'm afraid it doesn't count if the previous visit was after you knew where the hashpoint was... -- Benjw ] This time it was empty, there was noone around. So I used every single skill I have learned from the video games, I bravely jumped over the rope, raced to the geohash, turned around and ran back, taking picture somewhere in between. It all took me around 20 seconds. Solid Snake would be sooo proud of me :). Anyway - another virgin Irish graticule conquered. Only 10+ left!
