Since we discussed and planned quite heavily, i'm archiving to avoid cluttering the page. -- sermoa 20:55, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
Meetup starts at 4pm, there might be quite a few newcomers so i'm looking forward to meeting everybody! Bring food, drink, games, something to make a marker, and anything else you fancy bringing along! I'm going to bring bin bags as there may be a lot of rubbish and i still need to earn a geotrashing achievement! Plans include going to the Cricketers Arms afterwards - everyone is welcome to come along! :) -- sermoa
This is, on reflection, one of the more interesting geohash locations I've seen, though not quite picturesque! It's surrounded by train yards and next to a sewage farm. Wonder what it's like living in those houses? Good idea with the geotrash thing. I've just been looking again at the satellite image, and I really can't see any sign of a fence between the hash point and that children's playground - so I'm now rather more optimistic about access! I think this could be good. I used to live practically in Eastleigh, so I'll start thinking about good eating places. btw, look at this - someone's got a particle accelerator in their back garden! http://bit.ly/vi8rT :) --macronencer 19:27, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
The location is inside the old railway works car park which was, on last investigation, surrounded by high fence (Corner of the service road, north east to the track), but entrance looked possible with a bit of effort. If not, the land to the south east, between it and the park is accessable, but very overgrown. The rest of the railway works has had a very nice solid fence installed a few months ago making entrance to that part of it very unlikely --Dee (Not a real user yet) 21:29, 25 September 2009
- Wow - thanks Dee! That's useful. It sounds as if the triangular overgrown patch to the North of the playground is the accessible bit, from what you wrote. If so, I'd guess we can get about 15m from the target... with any luck, Google has its satellite image misaligned (does happen) and we might even be closer than that... as long as we're willing to hack through a few bushes. Sensible clothes, people, OK? --macronencer 20:42, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
Bing maps seems to show that accessing the location may be possible - although it may be in the middle of a large bush!: Bing map
- Ah yes, that's a good image from Bing! The geohash is very near that large bush - i do hope it's not right in the middle! -- sermoa 10:35, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
I wish I could share the optimism. I see a definite gate across an entrance in the bird's eye view, which probably means that there's a fence all the way around the perimeter... still, it will be fun regardless! We can watch the trains go by. Talking of trains, mine gets in at 16:04 so I'll be a little late. --macronencer 12:44, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm heading over now from Reigate so I may be a bit late - can someone text me so I can reach you if you've moved on? --davidc 13:48, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yep, will do - I've put your number in my phone David. Good luck with the Origin Geohash! --macronencer 13:52, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
