Planning

I have to work the late shift, so I should be able to make my Geohashing Day expedition in the morning. The plan is to take the train from Würzburg to Uffenheim, walk 2 km to the hashpoint, celebrate, walk back to the train station, take the train home, go to work. Possible trains start at 08:41 or 09:41, arriving 33 minutes later, with the return train at 10:41 or 11:41. This means 87 minutes for walking 4 km and celebrating.

Expedition

I woke up early enough to take the first train. When checking the schedule in the morning I saw that it stopped at the rarely served Würzburg South train station, which is nearer to my home, so I started from there. The train ride to Uffenheim was uneventful. In Uffenheim I walked along the railroad line towards the hashpoint. There was a small hiking path that wound itself through a nice forest. Birds were singing happily (or lustfully, you never know with those guys...), but the wiki doesn't like sound files. After leaving the forest I was near the hashpoint. It was right at the edge of a harvested field, or maybe one metre into it.

When taking my usual pictures I saw an old couple with three dogs approaching on the track next to the hashpoint. Hooray, hashdogs! I went a few steps into their direction and commented them on the beautiful dogs. One dog was quite shy, but the other two were very friendly and enjoyed the stroking. The owners had to pull them on with a little difficulty. Then I decided to build a geohashing marker. There were many dandelions on the other side of the track, so I picked many of them for the marker. Getting the fragile seed heads to the hashpoint was difficult because of a light but steady wind that blew many of them away while walking the few metres.

Then I started to walk back to the train station. After a few moments I saw a (mostly) dead earthworm on the side of the road with a group of ants around it, trying to cut it to pieces. I watched for a while, then continued my route as it was getting late. On the way back I walked quickly and even jogged a bit so I reached the train station in time for my return train.
