Felix Dance

Part 3 of a three day consecutive geohash. I woke up half-an-hour early to get to work this morning: 4:20am (shudder), jumped in my car and drove to Cranbourne, getting lost a little on the way, as you do.

As I approached I switched on my GPS, almost out of batteries from the weekend's activity, and drove right over the hash itself at the maximum allowed speed limit of 80km/hr, thereby achieving the Speed Racer achievement. Quickly slowing down and reversing over the shoulder to back up to hash I parked on the grass and jumped out. When there was no traffic I crossed the road to where the hash was, took some photos of my GPS etc, then back to the car.

Now, the INTERESTING thing about this geohash is that it sits directly on a piece of road of which I was involved in the construction. About five years ago, in 2007, I was a graduate site engineer on the nearby EastLink Tollway, and as part of the scope we had to build the Dandenong Southern Bypass, which was the hash-road. My manager was responsible for this piece of road and he frequently sent me out to supervise construction and make sure it was being built right/safely etc. In fact, I remember that very stretch of asphalt going down on the cement treated crushed rock base course. I reckon this might be the first time a geohash has been done directly on top of a piece of infrastructure the geohasher himself/herself was responsible for building. Should there be a ribbon for this?? At the least I get a Déjà vu geohash achievement, although I'll have to dig up some proof of this. I took photos at the time on a work camera but I've certainly lost them now :(

Here is the Google Maps route I took.

Hash reached: 5:30am

See 2012-06-17 -37 145 for the previous day's hash.
