2013 Geohashing Day retro expedition

The hashpoint for the 2013 Geohashing Day was not far from the train station in Iphofen, easily reachable by train, so I planned to go there. The only problem with that expedition was my dissertation defense the next day. I really really had to prepare for that. Although it didn't seem wise I went to the train station directly after work on the 21st. But I was late and after I bought the ticket the train had already left. So I went home and buried my geohashing plans, preparing my talk instead. Which went well.

Now Geohashing Day is a special day and I really didn't like to miss it. Luckily the rules for Mouseover day allow to visit the Geohashing Day's hashpoint and I planned to do just that. In the morning I went to the train station and took the 10:42 train to Iphofen. There I rapidly walked towards the hashpoint, following a large road first and smaller tracks later. The hashpoint was found easily. I hurried on the way back in order to catch the next train back and I was at the train station much earlier than needed. At 12:15 I was back in Würzburg.

Mouseover Day expedition

After lunch I set out again, this time for the regular Mouseover Day coordinates, starting at the train station like less than 2 hours earlier. I boarded the 14:03 train to Lauda, changed trains and I arrived at Reicholzhausen at 15:15. I walked through the town's empty streets, then up a hill and along fields. 10 minutes before 4 pm I was near the hashpoint, which was in a field with no visible plants. I took the usual pictures, then the special ones because of Mouseover Day and Towel Day. Even Scott had his towel with him! Whenever a car drove by while I was standing in the field - remember, don't panic! - I tried to act casual. As expected nobody else was there at 4 pm, but a few raindrops fell between 15:58 and 16:05.

I took a different route after that and instead of going back to Reicholzheim I went to Bronnbach. I passed vineyards and a forest on my way, which made a nice difference. I planned to take a look at the Bronnbach monastery before catching the train but when I rounded the last corner... Wait, this looks familiar. I think I have been here before. Yes, I was right. So I went to the train stop. From the internet train schedule I knew that Bronnbach is not a usual stop but a on-demand one. I didn't see any "press here for train" buttons and got a bit nervous, but the train entered the station slowly and stopped after the driver spotted me. The ride back to Würzburg passed uneventful, I was back shortly after 6 pm.

In total I went 201.7 km by train that day.
