Plans

I'll come by around 3:30 (unless I hear otherwise from you Thom) from work by bike, and try to get Ambassador, though probably no one will be home. Later than that won't be feasible for me though, unless I were to try for quite late (e.g. 6:30). Don't want to be the creepy guy attempting the ambassador ribbon after dark though... -- OtherJack (talk) 16:50, 12 February 2014 (EST)

3:30 is as good as any other time - will extract myself from the keyboard and meet you thereabouts. --Thomcat (talk) 16:53, 12 February 2014 (EST)

Expedition

OtherJack

Beautiful afternoon for a quick bike-hash break from work at the UW. Campus roads to the Burke-Gilman to 37th Ave NE, very easy ride... even the climb up 37th was nicely graded. So I arrived quite early, which is why my android gps had finally locked on by the time Thom got there fifteen minutes later. I need to stop forgetting to bring my real gps.

We both guessed no one was home, since the curtains were shut and lights appeared to be off... but I thought I'd try knocking anyway. We heard some stirring and then a 30ish guy answered, to whom I promptly explained that we were "from the internet." He turned out to be named Ben and, more importantly, was willing to serve as our ambassador to his backyard! Within a minute or so we had the coordinates. He seemed rather puzzled by the whole thing, though. I told him to google it. Not sure if he did.

Unfortunately I couldn't stay long because I had to head back to work for a meeting...

Second to arrive, I spotted OtherJack and parked. Pulled put GeohashDroid and found myself more than 2 blocks (330 meters) away. Hrmmm.... No geohash droid for me. Discussed at length with Jack as we approached the door.

Our lucky Seattle-ite was home, and Jack and I introduced ourselves and described our mission. The back yard, near the fence - though my GPS phone insisted I was a few football fields away. I snapped a picture of Jack and his much more successful location (below), then we discussed other geohash locations we have visited. Chicago! Germany! Paris!

On the way home, I fiddled with GPS tools (at stop signs of course). Nothing helped, so I tried rebooting the device. Success!

Regardless, I really need a new phone.
