Expedition

Nymphalis antiopa came to say hello to the sleeping geotoddler.

Sunday's hashpoint was very close to Pastori's home, thus definitely worth a visit. Tilley was still visiting him with his family. We decided to visit the hash along the way when Tilley&family were starting the trip home to Kuopio.

After lunch, we packed our stuff, put on geohashing clothes and shoes and started. The hash was about 5 km away as birds fly, but it was about 10 km via roads. The weather was again very nice for September, almost +20 and quite clear. Along the very familiar village roads we cruised, then turned into a smaller forest road. Then it was only a matter of following the gauge(s) on GPS device(s) counting down. At 250 meters, there was a good turning ring beside the road, so we stopped there. We then noticed, that Tilley's daughter had already fallen asleep during these 10 km. Too bad for her, she missed the hashpoint this time. Mrs. Tilley stayed also behind to guard her.

With a group of three left, we started towards the actual hashpoint. Via road 200 meters, then the GPS needle pointed sideways and we entered the forest. Recent forestry work had left quite a bit of residue into the ground, but luckily we didn't have to go very far, only 60 meters. Soon the hashpoint was located and confirmed with 2 GPS devices. Also 2 deer flies attacked Pastori and The Wife. We wanted to get quickly out before more of them would find us, so we took a couple of pictures and left.

This was not a good place to pick lingonberries or mushrooms. In the absence of anything better, Pastori picked some pieces of birch bark from the road. Then Pastori and The Wife went to the grocery store and Tilley with his family headed home.
