The Expedition
Today's geohash was located in the Landshut graticule, which I never visited before. Furthermore, I've never been to Regensburg, so I planned a trip. Going by train today was easier than last time, because there weren't any strikes.
From the train station in Regensburg it was about 4.1km to the geohash, as the dragon flies; and I estimated a walk of 45min. When leaving Regensburg, I had to cross the Autobahn A3 (Nuremberg-Passau) and passed a stadium in construction. First, I wondered that Regensburg might have a football team but later I remembered Jahn Regensburg. Anyway, the old stadium became too small and they are building a new one. I took some photographs from the outside and marched on.
Let's have a word about the weather: autumnly foggy and cloudy, but no rain and none forecasted...for today. The last days were different, it rained a lot. We will come back to this later.
I arrived in a small village, called Oberisling. I decided to turn right instead of turning left, relaying on my hand-drawn map. This was the second mistake today (the first mistake we will see immediately). I went on on a farm track and came to a street. I was unsure, which way to go and in contrary to my usual behaviour I looked on my mobile, where I have a geohash app. The map is way better and I decided to go through Oberisling. Next time, I will not draw any maps again and the app may direct me, because after a few meters I re-decided not to go through Oberisling and to continue my inital route; the third mistake.
With 700m to go, I arrived at fields I saw already at home on the satellite maps, and was confident to be on the right way. I looked around a small housing area to find another farm track but didn't find any. Consequently I walked through the first field. And here, I recognised my first mistake: I didn't bring any shoe protection with me, like the Juja-approved solution (see her report). I reached another farm track but it only led me to some kind of dam, which I climbed up, just to see I had to go down again. Down again, I mostly refused going on the field again, firstly because of the plants but also because of my shoes. Instead I walked along the baulk.
Well, finally I arrived at the geohash, it was located on a harvested corn field. I had a short rest to take the usual set of photos. The landscape was really nice, despite the weather. After finishing my break, I went on, but on a different way. In fact, I wanted to get on the farm roads I wanted to walk on in first place. I saw one, but leading in the wrong direction, so I didn't take it...do I have to say it: fourth but final mistake. Instead I walked further along the baulk but reached eventually the farm road. On the top of another hill I had a wonderful view to Oberisling again and the University Hospital of the University of Regensburg. Also, I could see some red deer, which surprisingly stood still when I stopped, slowly grapped my photograph and took photos. But not for long and they ran away eventually.
Thereafter, I walked back to Regensburg and took a train to Munich and home from there.
