Plans

It was the day before Micsnare’s birthday. B2c and Crankl checked the hashes around our home graticule, the plan was to collect the tron achievement, because this was Micsnare’s biggest wish. She tortured us with the question “Can we try tron?” every time we started a trip, so this was the perfect moment to end this.

Unfortunately the nearest hash was at Neusiedler Lake, and it was not the right season to charter a boat. So B2c and Crankl planned and planned and planned, after an hour we came up with a route, which could support the tron achievement but we were not planning to tell Micsnare about it. This should be the big birthday surprise.

We had planned the route precisely in google maps, now all we had to do is to transfer the route to our android phones. This task was harder than expected. It took about 30-40 minutes and about 1 million internet searches until we found a solution.

If anybody is interested to do the same here is the solution:

  • First step, plan the route on https://www.google.at/maps
  • Now create a short URL, this is done by clicking the gear icon in the right corner at the bottom.
  • This URL you have to copy paste into an E-Mail, it is important that this E-Mail is in html format.
  • Now you should have a clickable link within the Mail, something like this https://goo.gl/maps/qFJb3
  • Send the mail to your android phone and click the link.
  • When asked open the link with google maps, now the planned route should be available for turn by turn navigation.

Expedition

B2c and Crankl headed early to the hashmobile because the beast needed some fuel. At the gas station, the fuel door decided to stay closed. Fortunately B2c and Crankl are working in IT for a company in Austria with the main focus on automobile roadway repair services, so we had the possibility to connect to a database with step by step guides to fix the most common problems. After a quick search we found the location of the emergency release and the fuel door opened.

After the hashmobile was finally satisfied, B2c and Crankl headed to the next subway station to pick up Micsnare and start the trip.

After we all finally met, the tron achievement attempt started.

B2c was in charge of driving and Crankl was in charge of navigation. Micsnare was charged with energy, because she was loaded with beer.

It was harder than expected to navigate precisely through the evening traffic, with a hyperactive Micsnare in the backseat and a navigation system which decided from time to time to reroute us because the new path would be faster. Also it was the second time that Crankl filled the position of the navigator, which led to a few misunderstandings between navigator and driver.

All this was done while keeping the tron achievement attempt a secret.

After a while the situation settled and we were able to leave Vienna without crossing our path.

The rest of the way to the hashpoint was quite easy, if we leave out trucks and busses, which tried to race each other, out of consideration.

After we finally reached the area of the hashpoint, we informed Micsnare about the tron achievement attempt and parked the hashmobile, now everything needed to go exactly as planned.

Micsnare was chuffed that the boys did go to so much trouble in planning the expedition and managing to keep it a secret. Micsnare didn't know about the expedition until a few hours before.

B2c decided up ahead that he will not try to get the tron achievement because he already successfully claimed it before, so he was our driver and our scout.

He led us to the hashpoint, while Micsnare and Crankl followed him without crossing our own path.

After we reached the hash, we had to get back to the car, in this case B2c headed back to the hashmobile and the rest of us continued our path through the field.

At the end of the field, there was a street and a perfect short term parking spot, this was the exfiltration point. All of us arrived there nearly exactly at the same time.

We all got back in the car and discovered an unlucky situation, the navigation system insisted, that we had already reached our goal and we were not able to convince it to continue the navigation for our trip home. So Crankl had to redesign the way back on the fly, without crossing the own path. After nearly 2 hours we finally reached the hashcave without crossing our own path, we finally made it and the birthday present for Micsnare was perfect.

After we parked the hashmobile @hashcave, we headed to our hashpub to sit in our hashbooth and drink some beers. It was a successful day!
