Take the bus to Buda that afternoon and walk the kilo or so to the hash, then reverse.

Expedition

Budapest is not only at a high latitude, but also on the eastern side of its time zone. So, this close to the winter solstice, the Sun goes down around 4, and lacking free time before 3 I was obliged to spend this expedition mostly in the dark. As far as problems go, this was overshadowed by the cold, for which my preparation consisted only of wearing a sweatshirt. One consequence of this was that, wanting to keep my hands in my pockets as much as possible, I didn't attempt any photography except at the hashpoint.

I had been worried about the plot containing the geohash being closed to the public or being too densely forested to traverse, but neither of these stumbling blocks emerged: the woods simply reached all the way to Irhás árok with no barrier or signage. It was on the way back that I encountered difficulties, as I took a different route and found residences cutting me off from the street. These were not, however, hard to veer around.

I am glad I took that alternative route back, as it granted me some excellent views of the city's nocturnal lights.
