Expedition
This hashpoint differed completely from the Google aerial view of a tranquil meadow. It turned out to be a live quarry, fortunately sleeping for the weekend. I expected a disused railway and indeed there was a tall embankment. Oddly this was south of the hashpoint. I expected to find it in the north. This turned out to be a berm, enclosing noisome pits, great heaps and hills of slag, broken rock and blasted earth, mud pools and tall heaps of material reminiscent of Tolkien's Mordor. The maggot folk were absent though.
After scrambling over the berm, descending with a bum slide, I was well into the stupidity distance with about 50 metres to go. There didn't seem to be any immediate risk and there was no sign of a security presence, wargs or orcs. There was some quite deep mud but it was easy enough to dodge the pools. The final hashpoint was half way up a tall heap of stones, probably flints, used in decorative wall building. On my return path, after another bum slide, I found the quarry warning sign lying face down in the mud. I flipped it over for the photo. It was rather windy, mild and drizzly with Atlantic storm "Gertrude" flooding land and blowing down power lines a few hundred miles to the north.
