The second potential parking place was suitable. A signed public footpath led the right way. A premature left turn along a field perimeter could have been the footpath. There were no sign posts at this point. The hashpoint was a few paces into the dry field, probably wheat.
The photos seem to be dated Jan 07 1980. I took the battery out of my phone to force a re-boot and it seems not to have re-synchronised the date and time.
