Expedition

On the hashpoint.

A very nice sunny weekend day and a hashpoint only couple of kilometers away! What more could you ask for? After lunch, me and my daughter started our expedition. We rode our bike the approximately 3 km trip to the vicinity of the hashpoint. We parked the bike on top of the snowbank, and then we walked/crawled in the snow through the nice forest the remaining 150 m to the hashpoint. In the forest there was still plenty of snow, and the temperature was already so high that the surface of the snow was mostly soft.

Hashpoint was easily found. Accuracy was only about 3 meters, because of the very old and dense spruce (Picea abies) forest. We posed for a picture at the point where the readings were the lowest. This area is a recreation area owned by the city of Joensuu, and in the winter there is a well-maintained skiing track going around. In the summer you can walk in the paths. We actually visited this area several times last fall to pick mushrooms, and also in the winter we have used the skiing track. Unfortunately it's not quite enough for a déja vu -hash, because the hash was 25 m from the main path.

After successfully hashing, we continued to explore the forest and climb every boulder we could find, until we were exhausted. Then we returned home where there was sauna and some ice cream waiting. Really great hashtrip!
