Plans
Go there in the morning, after uni, since in the afternoon it should rain a little more than in the morning, and don't want to get more wet than I am going to be already.
Expedition
Today was a typical autumn-north-german day; cloudy, raining just a little bit, and without really being able to see the sun the whole day. But that's no excuse to go out hashing, and more if the hash is relatively close from home.
The weather forecast wasn't optimistic for no time period today, so it would be raining regardless if I went there in the morning or in the afternoon. So better before noon. And after uni, I grabbed my bike and rode there directly.
I know the area from going there a few times geocaching, and also, in the Ryckgraben is a good area to go and see some birds. Today I had an experience with them, I will share it later. Work day afternoon is almost a guarantee that the area will be quiet and lonely.
I crossed the river Ryck, went a cross the golf course and went towards the hash. I had also a cache in mind to search, but I preferred to first go to the hash, and then, on the way back, go search the Cache. In the middle of a field. Apparently.
I entered the forest until I could not go by bike any more. There I parked it and continued by foot. Actually, here, there is also a geocache that I had already found, and visited it to see that everything was in order.
Just when I entered the forest, leaving the path behind, I started taking some pictures of mother nature when suddenly I hear what it seemed a grey heron going crazy over my head. First I felt like, look, enjoying nature, but when I look up, I see that it is not only flying over me, but circling around. Wait? Is that meant for me? For a minute I thought that maybe I was disturbing his area or maybe it has its nest nearby. It kind of freaked me out. It wouldn't stop and kept circling over me. I went back to the path and it seemed as it didn't leave me. Once I had a better view of the sky I see that the heron was not maybe crying in my direction but to another heron also flying around. I observed time for a while until I made sure that I was not disturbing them. For a minute it felt like Hitchcock's "Birds" haha If you see a heron from a close distance, it's scary (and can be dangerous).
Now that I knew that there was no danger ;) I pursued the hash. Right in the middle of nowhere in that forest. I got the proof, I went see the river, maybe I could find there some ducks, but I didn't.
Then, on my way back I stopped to search the geocache in the middle of the field. It can be seen in the tracklog. Apparently in the middle of nowhere, but it was worth. The entrance to Moria.
And having all that I had planed done, I returned home. Time to wash the rain from me. Not soaked enough to claim a Drowned Rain Ribbon, but the wet feet were starting to complain and ask for warmth.
