Another cycling tour to Endern, just like 20 days ago (and ~165 times before).

Expedition

Somewhat similar to 2021-12-22 53 10, but not quite as cold (around 3 °C). I was staying home due to a recent encounter with a family member who later tested positive, but thankfully not in mandated quarantine, so I could go to this hash (it's not like I was going to meet anyone there …). To my surprise, Grandpa Pinns Hashhog wanted to accompany me – he doesn't get out much these days. I cycled the 7.8 km to Endern forest on the familiar route, and stopped when the supposed small path through the forest became almost unridable. I had to walk the last 280 m through the forest and jump over two ditches to get to the hashfield, but the ground was so muddy that I decided to go back into the forest, walk a few metres there, and then jump back over the ditch to get more direct access.

The hash lay 30 m onto a meadow for horses, which I could see on a neighbouring field. I was in direct sight of the farm, so I hurried onto the boggy field, somehow managing to avoid wetting my feet despite the visible puddles between the bundles of grass. The horses seemed very interested, but could not get onto my field. I found the spot and took some photos with Pinns, then went back through a heath-like region at the edge of the field. I had to climb up the bank back into the forest, made it back to my bike and decided to cycle the northern route home, through Kisdorf. I arrived shortly after dusk, having cycled 9.1 km from the hash, soaked with sweat due to my thick clothes. Pinns' old laceration near his backside had begun to pain him again on the way, I don't think he'll be much more willing to go on expeditions in the future.
