Expedition

My third in a row!

I rode down to Flinders St station and took the train to Carrum. Time constraints prevented me from riding in both directions even though I could have taken the Bay route. Rail replacement buses prevented my from taking the train directly to Cranbourne. So Carrum it was.

I took the tail wind directly east and reached the hash with great ease. It was right on the footpath and so extremely accessible. The nature strip had some old pine trees lying on it, possibly vestiges of a gigantic Christmas party.

In basically no time I hopped back on my bike and headed northwards. I was briefly tempted to check out my old workplace at the Cranbourne Narre-Warren Road Upgrade Project, which I'd left at the end of last week, but then I thought, 'Nah, stuff that' and didn't.

The ride home was singularly uneventful. I took the main Sth Gippsland Hwy to Dandenong, pausing slightly for a sausage roll and BigM at a local servo, then took the still nicely new Djerring Trail into Caulfield. From there I navigated some large but direct roads back to my place, arriving just before 4pm.

It came to my notice that had I then jumped straight back onto a train at Southern Cross Station, got off at North Shore near Geelong, then ridden 45 minutes west I could have got the hash in the adjacent graticule as well. This would have meant that, with Matt's effort near Moe this morning - 2022-02-10 -38 146, three consecutive hashes along the same latitude would have been achieved in a single day. I wrestled with this quandary as I rode home but managed to conquer my monomania with pragmatism.

I'd also forgotten to touch-off on my Myki card exiting Carrum Station so the train trip out there would be heavily subsidised by this morning's travel.
