Expedition

In the morning, I took the train via Rheine to Meppen and walked the rest of the distance.

On the Markstiege cemetery, I located the coordinates on Maria Krause's (1916-2010) grave. To the north and to the west of this grave, uniform white rectangular headstones mark nuns' graves, and to the northwest, uniform brown cross-shaped headstones mark soldiers' graves. The other graves around seem to be regular graves for individuals, couples or families.

The designation Eheleute on Maria Krause's headstone indicates that the grave is meant for a married couple, but the husband's name is missing. Either he was buried elswhere, or the widower is still alive, which means he is either very old - 107 if he is his wife's age - or significantly younger than her. I am not sure which version I find the most plausible.

After recording proof, I walked back to the station and took the train via Rheine back to Osnabrück.
