It was my birthday on this day and the weather was uncharacteristially relly nice. I am used to always have bad weather on my birthday, but this was a rare exception. As a second part of this birthday gift of a hashpoint, it lay closeby (4.6 km) in a forest i know well and was pretty sure we would be able to reach with relative ease.

Expedition

To the hashpoint

We started at 10:25 from home and made our way uphill through Friedrichsdorf. Its clear blue skies, no wind and no too cold. We visited a big new housing development to check on its progress, its nearly complete. We had to walk pretty slow because of the steep incline, but thats fine, we were not in any rush. We went further uphill through the forest on a path i know pretty well as i have ridden my mountianbike up there many times. Just 1.4 km from the hashpoint we leave the trails i know and head further north-west. We pass a hunter cabin which looked well taken care of, but noone was there. We had to go downhill a little bit to get to below the hashpoint, we wanted to aproach it from below rather than above. When we finally had to leave the apth to get to the hashpoint we found that it fell on one of the steepest inclines in this part of the forest. Loose stones, fallen branches and lots of dry leaves on the ground made climbing up actually a challenge.

At the hashpoint

The hashpoint was just at the base of a tree on the steep hillside. This was somewhat convenient as the tree base gave us stable bround to stand an take the prerequisite selfie. Unfortunately the hashpint was on the north-west side of the mountain so the low winter sun did not reach there. Because of this and the inhospitable steep ground we decided to postpone the proper picknick and birthday hash celebration until we found a suitable location. To get onto a path again we climbed further up the slope, as going downhill was not a decent option on the loose ground.

In search of a spot to celebrate

Trying to find a decent spot to celebrate we went over the top of the hill and wandered on the sunnier side back towards Friedrichsdorf. Unfortunately all the spots were we would have been able to sit down were really windy so we kept on walking until we met up with our earler path. Then under the prtection of trees we finally got to sit down, celebrate, eat our snacks and take some more pictures. The green tentacly thing is just a cute silly little gift, if you don't pay too much attention to it it certainly wont haunt your dreams.
