Finally, my first successful expedition after more than 2.5 months of travelling in Asia! It's a Christmas miracle, and a graticule unlock as a bonus!
I was staying in Bangkok for Christmas and had hoped to be able to make use of the good public transport system to be able to reach a hash in a couple hours. Imagine my surprise when, on my third day there, the hash fell less than 5 km from my hostel, with a bus line leading right to it!
In the morning of Christmas Day, I took the bus for 15 minutes and it dropped me not even 50 m from the hash, which lay in the middle of the same street. When all vehicles came to halt, I walked onto the road and took some pictures, not caring what the drivers might think of it. How could it be so easy after 2.5 months of nothing but impossible or extremely hard locations (safe for 2024-12-06 28 77)?
I spent the rest of the day walking to the nearby port, then taking a ferry across the river, renting a bike there and exploring the lush green peninsula around Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park in the middle of the bustling city. A very interesting experience indeed! In the evening, I went back to the hostel for the Christmas party.
