Happy Hashing Year 2025, everybody!
When this geohash was released, I was immediately excited – publicly accessible, and only 6 km from my hostel! And getting there would only take around an hour! I fully planned to go.
I came back from New Year's celebrations late at night and slept in, then in the morning made a plan to go to Ayutthaya today. I left around early afternoon and took the metro to Bang Sue station, where I bought my ticket for the commuter train. Just as it pulled in, was browsing on my phone and noticed the open geohashing.info tab … I had completely forgotten about the hash, despite being so excited about it the day before! That's what New Year's can do to you.
I had to make a snap decision to either board the train or leave to grab the hash. I'd likely still make it Ayutthaya that day, but my ticket was bound to this specific train and, since I had gone in the opposite direction, the expedition would likely be at least 3 hours from here. I didn't have much time, so I ultimately decided to leave the hash and instead get a look first look at the Thai countryside, and at Ayutthaya in the evening, partly because I had already unlocked the Bangkok graticule a week earlier. Looking back a few days later, I now regret the decision. Who knows if I'll even get another chance this month? Would've been a banger to start the new geohashing year! This is my I usually take my sweet time making decisions like this.
