From Geohashing

Let me be the first to ask - what are those purple dots? --Thomcat 21:06, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

And that's why I upload the expedition before the gallery. I guess I didn't explain it clearly enough.

I know from experience (i.e. handing passengers maps) that the ability to look out the window, looking down on the terrain from an angle, and see that the terrain matches the image on a map is a learned skill. People who don't do it for a living can't see where they are, even when the features look obvious to me. So I put a pink dot in the centre of each of a group of lakes and more on some other matching features, so that even someone who never looks at terrain in this way can see the perfect match. It was because I was going north, the same direction as the Google photo and because the lakes are so distinctive. And because I did such a great job of snapping the photo at the right instant.

Hope that is clearer. -Robyn 21:13, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Ah, cool! :) I thought you might have captured alien spacecraft, or perhaps the sun reflected from Ol'Slavey... --Thomcat 21:21, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
