From Geohashing
Good adventure. Great report. I'd have been tempted to tell the cop what I was about and tried to talk him into escorting me to the hash for an Ambassador achievement. Maybe even a Restricted area achievement. Be looking forward to future reports of great expeditions. --Bos 16:32, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- I think you were wise to hold back. And they should have a sign on the historic plaque saying that you can't take photographs, because everyone takes pictures of plaques. You can still list your achievement on the Walk Geohashes page. It says, "You may also list your unsuccessful attempts here, as long as you didn't use any other mode of transportation to the hashpoint area." -Robyn 17:45, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- Bos, You're right - I don't think I could have lost much by asking the cop to assist me in an Ambassador achievement. Now, when you talk about a Restricted area achievement, do you mean gaining access to the hashpoint in the way most people gain access to the inside of a prison? I thought a lot about that, but first of all, I think one would have to be male. Second, I don't have a criminal record and I don't know what one would have to do to get imprisoned for a first offense, but I might not want to do it. Third, I don't know enough about the criminal justice system to know how likely it is that one would get into a specific state prison on a specific day. For instance, what if they wanted to send me home until my trial?
- Robyn, I wasn't clear in my explanation: you can take pictures of the historic plaque, but you can't stand with your back to the historic plaque and take pictures of the prison on the other side of the street. When he said "I know this is a historical site, but..." I think the officer was giving me the benefit of the doubt and assuming I was taking the picture because it was the View from the Plaque.
- And I don't know why I haven't listed my expedition on the Walk Geohashes page. If I had listed it earlier, then for about ten days it would have been the longest Walk Geohash attempt. Congratulations again on your achievement this week. Sara 19:40, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
