From Geohashing

Viability study for Tongs/B

Okay, the hashpoint could have been out in the middle of nowhere, but instead its within a convenient distance of Kings Lynn railway station. On the other hand, it's Kings Lynn railway station, roughly 150km from me. The journey to the hashpoint would be about three hours each way would cost me about £60. The prospect of crop damage stopping us reaching the point is not ideal either. Disappointing.

Sourcerer, you said you might be trying the London hashpoints. For London West, I have discovered that both St Albans and my local station is on the Thameslink, so to get to St Albans at least would be a direct journey. This makes things a bit more possible. The London East one is sort of in the middle of nowhere near Chelmsford, and Google tells me it would take two hours or so to get to.

Failing that, we can see how things turn out for Mouse-over Day.

Agreed. Try for Mouse-over Day. I'd consider London East, north of the Thames and the NE corner of London West --Sourcerer (talk) 21:46, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
Please give me a shout if you're going to try for 2018-05-21 52 -0 and would like to do some kind of meetup. No worries if not though. Tongs (talk) 21:59, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
Oh wow, you went already! Good work! Tongs (talk) 13:37, 21 May 2018 (UTC)

Apologies, but I absolutely won't be able to join you for any of these. :-( Maybe on Saturday morning if it's very close to Cambridge. Have fun, anyway. — Benjw  {talk} 22:09, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

I also, would prioritise a beer festival over geohashing. --Sourcerer (talk) 14:07, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

Geohashing Week in London

Perhaps we can make this week Geohashing Week, and keep a look-out every day for a good point to have a meet-up at. Tongs (talk) 06:12, 21 May 2018 (UTC)

Tuesday: London West is in Terminal 2 of Heathrow, and London East is in the middle of the Thames near Cliffe. It looks like a trip on the Tilbury-Göteburg ferry would sail over the hashpoint! Tongs (talk) 13:37, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
Wednesday: Both points are 75km or more away. West is near a nice pub called the Rose and Crown in Farringdon, East is off the M20 past Ashford. Google said the latter would take 2h each way, and the former appears to be intractable. Tongs (talk) 17:07, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
Thursday: London West is a potential visit. It is a little bit of land by The Meads in Edgware. Looks very close to housing, so a potential to freak people out, but also adjacent to public space.. Under an hour by public transport... London East is just off the M25 in a wooded area. Can't quite make out what it is, but it's likely to be on a golf course. I wonder if I'm allowed on it. Public transport is 1h35 via Romford. Tongs (talk) 13:42, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

Sunday:
I already have activities planned for Thursday and Friday so I can only do local points. On Saturday, we'll see. --Sourcerer (talk) 14:09, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
On Thursday I am helping to construct an amateur radio repeater (!) so it's a bit awkward. For Saturday I'm trying to rope a friend into coming with me; if I'm honest the idea of geohashing alone doesn't appeal but with someone else it's much better and I'll travel much further.
