About Me

Hi everyone, my name's Connor, and I live in Memphis. I just recently started Geohashing and have already reached a few hash points! It was lots of fun, and I'm pretty stoked for more adventuring.

Memphis is right in the bottom corner of two graticules: 35N 89W and 35N 90W, so I'm very close to four graticules total, which is convenient. Lately the Oxford graticule has had better opportunities, so check out that page for updates and stuff. Most of these graticules are currently virgin and relatively inactive, because not many people in this area are into outdoorsing. I'm sure there's a few though, so please contact me if you want to go exploring and whatnot! The other users listed on the Memphis page don't seem to be active...

Unfortunately, most of the land here is farmland owned by what I (probably incorrectly) assume are crotchety southern farmers with little patience for trespassers, so I'm pretty sure most of my attempts will end up with the "No Trespassing" Consolation Prize. At least that will earn me an achievement.

Anyway, yeah. Fun stuff.

Scotland Vacation

So in the latter half of May of 2012, I'll be in Scotland for vacation. Amanda and I are staying with some friends in Forfar; we'll be there the 18th through the 29th. We'll be absurdly busy trying to do ALL THE THINGS there are to do in Scotland, but we'd like to go geohashing while we're there. And wouldn't ya know it, we'll be there on Geohashing Day! So if anyone is going to be in the UK and wants to do a meetup on the 21st, let me know.

Geohashing

So far I've reached 3 hash points out of 6 attempts in 3 graticules.

2012-04-07 35 -89 Amanda's first successful geohash.

2012-04-01 34 -89 Private Property geohash in Holly Springs National Forest.

2012-03-17 39 -105 A puppet geohash reached by my friends in Denver.

2012-03-16 35 -90 A very muddy expedition to an abandoned farm near Clarkedale, AR.

2012-03-13 34 -89 Private property geohash down in northern Mississippi, near a cemetery.

2012-03-09 34 -89 My first successful geohash! A little over a half mile off of a country road in Byhalia, Mississippi.

Achievements and Ribbons

MayorOfBoxTown earned the Land geohash achievement by reaching the (34, -89) geohash on 2012-03-09.

MayorOfBoxTown earned the Graticule Unlocked Achievement by being the first to reach any hashpoint in the (34, -89) graticule, here, on 2012-03-09.

MayorOfBoxTown earned the Ambassador achievement by obtaining permission from Barry to access the (35, -90) geohash on 2012-03-16.

MayorOfBoxTown earned the Puppet Master Geohash achievement by manipulating Jud and Talia to reach the (39, -105) geohash on 2012-03-17.

MayorOfBoxTown earned the Graticule Unlocked Achievement by being the first to reach any hashpoint in the (35, -89) graticule, here, on 2012-04-07.

MayorOfBoxTown achieved level 2 of the Minesweeper Geohash achievement by visiting coordinates in Memphis, Tennessee and 2 of the surrounding graticules.

Mayor and Amanda earned the No trespassing consolation prize by almost reaching the (35, -89) geohash on 2012-03-03.
