Location

Expedition

Kreis Schleswig-Flensburg was northern Germany's last unhashed extended second-level subdivision, and I'd wanted to get it for a while. There had been many opportunities in the last year, but I was either too busy or didn't check the location there. This Sunday, however, I had time and the hash lay conveniently only 10 km from Schleswig.

Full report to come, but long story short: I got there two hours later than planned, made it to the hash just outside of a restricted military area and just before heavy rain started, cycled to the gigantic Gottorf Castle (seat of House Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp which produced Swedish Kings and Russian Tsars, among others) and visited both the state historical and archaeological museums inside (one of which was very impressive and much more interesting than the other), cycled through the beautiful city of Schleswig for a while, including its enormous cathedral, barely caught my train, spent half an hour exploring Rendsburg in the dark and made it home in the evening.
