Expedition

I was a little concerned about being a Drowned Rat today given all the rain in the forecast, but around 15:00 when I was getting ready to head over to the park, it started clearing up. It was a pretty easy drive over and I was able to park in the lot right near the hash. It's possible the weather rained out most of the baseball games if any were scheduled for today. I did see one diamond being used, but it could have just been a practice.

Parking the car, I walked over and had an easy GPS dance with the HashDroid app which also gave me a +1 for the Official Saturday Meetup count even if I was just a few minutes late. Before driving over, I also saw this had multiple opportunities for a Hash Collision event but the closer Cache had a lot of notes that it was missing and others earlier saying it wasn't even at the posted location. I decided to skip that one and try for the 'Poison' Cache instead which indicated it was an easier find.

Given the rain clouds were still threatening, I drove over to the other lot that was close to the cache and pulled out my GPS. I then walked the short way into the woods but maybe wasn't getting a great signal initially because I headed in the wrong direction. But after correcting, and seeing the distance go down, I got to what felt like the right area for the cache. I then looked down at the GPS and it agreed saying I was a mere 5 feet (not quite 2 meters) away! Looking around and then up, I suddenly saw the cache looking back at me. Given the cap had a hole in it, the log was mostly dry, so I was able to sign it and show that it was within the 1 KM limit for a Hash Collision Honorable Mention event!

If the weather was better, I would have walked around more as there was a multi-use trail that meandered around the park and by the ponds. It looks like it's a very nice park and I'll have to check it out when I'm out that way again.
