For weird reasons no one knows, I didn't see any sings about restricted areas or no allowed trespassing posted on or around the fence. One of the reasons might be that it was still very dark when I went. I had figured I wouldn't want to go after work because it would be completely dark so I decided that I wanted to do the walk with at least a little light in the early morning during the hour before sunrise, arriving in Gernlinden at 6:05 am and heading on to work in the 48/10 graticule on another train an hour later. It seemed like it was the first morning of the year with frost on the ground. All the trains had really bright and loud electric arcs on the pantographs when they were moving; a fascinating display I hadn't seen since last winter.

Location

Inside the fenced area of the Maisach military airport in Munich's West, roughly 1 km South of the Gernlinden S-Bahn station. The exact coordinates were just off the runway and close to the touch-down zone at its East end (the piano keys).

Plans

OMG OMG OMG! Friday is soooo gonna be POSTED! There's no way a military airport will not be labeled "No Trespassing". The spot is right next to the piano keys of the rwy. Anyone going? --Zb 21:28, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

I'm not going to either hashpoint, but I find it interesting that Friday's 49 12 is also in the vicinity of an airportstrip :) --dawidi 23:29, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

Expedition

For weird reasons no one knows, I didn't see any signs about restricted areas or forbidden trespassing posted on or around the airport fence. And on other things like electric wires: All the trains had really bright and loud electric arcs on the pantographs when they were moving; a fascinating display I hadn't seen since last winter.

  • Nautical twilight started at 05:56, just before I got off the train. The sky in the North-East just started to show some first signs of daylight when I started the walk.
  • Civil twilight started at 06:33, when things around the airport fence just became visible.
  • Sunrise was at 7:06 when I was already back on the train.

The geohash, like some earlier ones along the route of my commute, was a great routine-killer.
