Expedition

Danatar

Today was one of those days where I absolutely had to go geohashing. When I looked up the coordinates, the closest location lay quite near to my work but too far for a cycle tour from home. I was working on the late shift this week and I have the weekend off, this meant that I had to go there directly after work. This also meant that the adventure was so spontaneous that I didn't have my GPS receivers or my camera.

At 23:45 I started and drove along dark country roads via Niederwerrn, Euerbach and Schwemmelsbach to Burghausen, where I parked the car at the town limit where a field track started. The hashcat sitting next to the adjacent house avoided me. With a flashlight in one hand and my car GPS unit I followed the field track until I was north of the hashpoint. There I found a stubble field so I could walk right across it to the hashpoint. I arrived at about 00:30, too late for the midnight achievement. I used my mobile phone's camera to take pictures of the GPS and of myself, which was not easy in the dark. Afterwards I turned off the flashlight, enjoyed the silent night for a moment and sang happy birthday to me. There were no presents for me to be opened :-(

I left the field and walked back towards my car, this time without the flashlight, because it was just light enough to see the track and I knew that there would be no hidden dangers (too dark for raptors). Once a bat flew towards me but turned away in time, probably after pinging me (which gave her about 12 milliseconds as a response). I then drove home. In Schwebenried the area suddenly looked familiar, yay for geohashing!

I arrived home at 01:20 where I found a small packet in my mailbox. My first birthday present! And it came from 49,-123! Thank you very much, thepiguy!
