It was possible to park at the road-side. Being ahead of schedule, I had time to explore the start of the public footpath and have a look at the adjacent field. Part of the wheat crop had been left unharvested. Seed eating birds and mice will be happy! So will the owls and hawks.

Whilst exploring, I saw two unusually brilliant meteor trails, much brighter than any I saw during the Perseid shower back in August. Google tells me that the Taurid shower produces a few fireballs (brighter than usual trails) and 2015 is a peak year. I have heard meteors on the radio. The ionised trail acts as a mirror and VHF stations a thousand kilometres away can be heard for a second or two until the ions recombine. VHF radio is normally line of sight, perhaps 50 km.

Expedition

Original

At midnight, I got the evidence photos and departed for home.

It's worth looking at the church using Google Street view. The Google car drove right inside the building or they used a portable version of the cameras.

This added about three minutes to the journey time to 2016-01-04 52 1. It was on the route and the hashpoint was only 15 metres from the road.
