Expedition

It could have turned out very badly, but it didn't.

I finally made it to the park, expecting it to say it closed at dusk. But it is apparently open from 5AM to 12:01AM, so I still had a few hours to find the hashpoint and escape the park!

I had only 300 feet to go, so I headed down the road I parked on, but only got to within 100 feet from the hashpoint - apparently this wasn't the path the hashpoint was on. So I went back to the path I had seen earlier. The path was a sloped, dirt one, and it had been raining earlier today...

But, I was so close to the hashpoint - much closer than the stupidity distance, so I gingerly made my way down the path with my flashlight.

I eventually got to 21 feet from the hashpoint, and the GPS arrow pointed off into the sloped brush on the side of the path. I demurred on getting any closer, declared success, and went home.

(No photos, as you might expect.)
