Plans

This last month has been slow regarding geohashing for very obvious reasons. I take public transport only if necessary and that leaves me with only Winterbuche as my mean of transport. But this hash is very near and I should be able to reach it.

I am planning on grabbing Winterbuche in the morning and go there directly. Not much mystery since it's only about ~5km away and in a very well known area. Very near from this geohash I visited last year (I am expecting no witches this time). I might take my binoculars with me and let's see what I find and hear. Probably some woodpeckers, tits, nuthatches, chaffinches... At least that is what I have been seeing this last week.

Weather should be fine, a little bit cold, now that we thought that spring had arrived, but nothing not manageable.

Expedition

Well, it was a success. After these slow days, where every day seemed like it was Sunday, it was kind of nice to go out and breath some fresh air and forget a little bit about everything.

It went everything pretty much according to plan. I grabbed Winterbuche and took off at about 11:30 and going right towards the hash, I approached it like 30 minutes later, at 12:06 or something like that.

I had to park the bike on the trail and make the last approach on foot, as I expected. Very calm day. And a little bit cold, compared to last week. I got colder on the forest shade, and right while I was doing the hash dance a big cloud covered the sun, and got even colder, but there was no rain risk. I was however well equipped.

So much silence there. Well, not really silence, human silence, because there was this non-stop singing of birds. I recorded some of it (keep in mind it was with my phone), and maybe I can embed the audio here. And, yes, I had my binoculars with me, I did no forget them.

Along the way I found the usual and expected: a lot of chaffinches, great tits, blackbirds, nuthatches some sparrows. And also the more elusive ones. The mocking Woodpeckers. You here them a lot, you here them close, but I always have difficulties spotting them. Keep looking at the tree where the sound comes from, and you just have to be aware of all the little movements until you see it. And, as always, I didn't get it on camera. There just too elusive.

Then I also spotted what it looked like a Hawfinch but I am not quite sure. I kind of got it on camera. Not the best picture however.

And while doing so, stopping and observing, I also took the chance to go after a few geocaches. Not so lucky on this aspect. 1/3. But this walk on the woods made my day.

Well, let's hope we gain slowly normality these next months. Be safe and healthy! ;)
