Having spent a long weekend down in Central Otago, we saw that there was a doable Sunday hash near Omarama, in the virgin "Waitaki River" graticule. We'll have to give it a go on the way home! It looks to be a few hundred metres off the road at the top of the Waitaki Valley.

Expedition

It was towards the end of the day by the time we got within reach of the hash. The sun was going down and so we knew we had to be quick or else the photos would be disappointing. We also had a friend with us. "Oh, by the way, there's this thing that we do ..."

  It was a constant uphill trek as we walked towards the hash. About 200 metres into the walk we turned to look back towards the car that was getting smaller and smaller.

  The hash itself as another 400-500 metres in this direction.

  With the sun going down we jogged to the hash - made it! We raised a small shrine to the hashing deity...

• 

  ... and enjoyed the panaramic view! The lake is artificially created in the 1960s, as a result of the Benmore Dam, the largest of several dams in the valley.

  Looking north-west up the valley towards the Southern Alps in the distance.

  And the obligatory selfie before we head back to the car.

Achievements

Quaternary earned the Graticule Unlocked Achievement by being the first to reach any hashpoint in the (-44, 170) graticule, here, on 2018-09-09.

Quaternary earned the Drag-along achievement by dragging Will to the (-44, 170) geohash on 2018-09-09.

Quaternary earned the Electric Vehicle Achievement by travelling to and from the Geohash in an electric vehicle (-44, 170) geohash on 2018-09-09.
