On the morning of the 22nd, Regie went down to the wharf and asked around among the people there with boats. She found a boat willing to take us out a bit later for ₱1000. Then she came and met up with [[User:Eldin|Eldin]], Lucky, and Janna. We found a taxi to take us all to the wharf at the time the owner of the boat was expecting us, paid the ₱10 fee to get into the marina, and all boarded the boat. We showed the boat's  driver the map on my phone of where we wanted to go. He seemed a bit perplexed as to why we wanted to go there, but didn't complain or try to change our mind. We actually took a somewhat round-about route to the hashpoint, as apparently driving motorized boats parallel to the shore inside the bouys (located about 800m out from shore) is discouraged. Once we got to a point where the driver felt comfortable heading back in towards shore to the hash, I let him have my phone so that he could use its GPS to home in on the precise spot. When we were within 15 meters of the spot I got my phone back, and tried to get a good screenshot as we circled around and through the hashpoint. We did pass within GPS error of the point multiple times, but the best screenshot I managed to get shows us about 21m off. After we all agreed that we had reached the spot, we took some pictures and headed back to the wharf. It was a very pleasant day for a boat ride and we all had fun. After arriving at the wharf we retired to a nearby resturant to eat lunch.

About 400m off the coast of Davao City

Participants

  • Eldin
  • Lucky
  • Janna
  • Regie
  • two guys willing to take their boat to a random spot for money

Plans

When I saw the day before that the hashpoint was near the shore, near a marina where boats can be hired, and less than 3km from where I'm staying in Davao, I started looking into the options for hiring a boat. Before we went to bed on the 21st, Lucky had located a fisherman who was willing to take us out for a fee ₱3000. This was considered to be the backup plan, as we believed we could find someone willing to take us out for cheaper.

Expedition

On the morning of the 22nd, Regie went down to the wharf and asked around among the people there with boats. She found a boat willing to take us out a bit later for ₱1000. Then she came and met up with Eldin, Lucky, and Janna.

Also worth noting, this was Eldin's 100th geohashing expedition!
