Kozz There's a Safeway carpark about 100m from the hash site and in theory, traffic permitting, I can probably cross the actual hash point by foot then follow up by car (the aerial photo shows it on the median strip; the map shows it as being on the road)

myka will head down after work, in between some other errands he has to run, but doesn't know when he'll get there. He'll try and get a vid of the GPS as he drives over the point.

I have belatedly realised that I'm on call for work this week, and should be near a computer out of hours in case I get a call. Unfortunately this reduces my ability to go gallivanting until I get hold of our support laptop tomorrow (and even then with extremely reduced range). guess I'll have to miss this one --mykaDragonBlue [- i have no sig -] 07:21, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Expedition

kozz - Another beautiful day, another geohash, this one again in the leafy green outer eastern Suburbs of Melbourne under the shadow of the Dandenong Ranges.

We've been a little spoilt for choice lately, with most of the hashes within decent driving distance and this one was again about 20 minutes from my house.

I left work, swearing loudly and effusively at the other commuters from the safety of my car - "Get the [expletive deleted] out of my way, I [expletive deleted] NEED to get [expletive deleted] HOME so I don't have to GEOHASH in my [expletive deleted] WORK SUIT!"

After a quick change into geohashing clothes, a raid of the partner's car to extract the satnav, I packed the dog into the car and drove out along Canterbury Road towards Cantebury Reserve. The cricket was on, which provided a pleasant distraction. Despite the moderate traffic and unfriendly lights, we made good time and pulled up in the Woolworths carpark adjacent to the Cantebury Reserve.

The hash site itself was in the middle of one of the two city-bound lanes, and with traffic whizzing past at 70kmph it wasn't worth posting a sign right on the median strip - so I settled for what I could remember from the Street View pics - the trunk of a large pine tree close to the road. Apparently pine trees aren't the best surface for double-sided tape to adhere to and it immediately fell off, so I put it on a fencepost with a better surface. Posting an XCKD poster on a post, awesome.

The park next to the hash site was beautiful; tranquil ponds, bullrushes and ducks, beautiful blue sky above and long grass all around - I was sorely, sorely tempted to revisit the nearby supermarket and purchase a cool refreshing beverage of an beery nature. But as a dedicated geohasher, I knew I must press on. After taking the dog for a quick explore of the ponds I crossed over the main road, taking a hurried snapshot of the supposed hash site on the way, took photos of my signage handiwork, then returned to the car for a Speed Racer attempt which kinda succeeded apart from not showing the speedometer.

And to add to the trophy haul, a Deja Vu - only a couple of hundred metres away was the doors & windows factory I'd visited late last year.

This was a really pleasant experience, all told!
