::Ok, I see. Does 0 out of 0 count as all(it should but that will be strange for an achievement)? In my graticule and the 8 surroundering all expeditions done in the last 6 months is by me. :/ Should there be a minimal number? For example you'll maybe meet 0 of 0, 1 of 2, 2 of 3 etc. will those really count? --Vswe 07:06, 10 December 2010 (UTC) | ::Ok, I see. + | Support I notice discussion stalled here well over a year ago, but I wanted to throw in my vote of support for this becoming an achievement, even though I'm unlikely to ever receive it, since only one other local geohasher has ever documented an expedition in my home graticule, which was over 2 years ago, and was the only expedition that individual ever documented. And no geohasher has ever claimed any of my 8 surrounding graticules as home. I would vote that the honorable mention should perhaps be awarded just for meeting 2 other geohashers, not necessarily local ones. The local requirement makes the honorable mention impossible for anyone with less than 3 geohashers in their 3x3 grid, while lifting that requirement makes it only dificult for such people. --Eldin (talk) 11:53, 15 April 2013 (EDT) | ||

This got me the idea:
- Handshake: Perhaps some sort of achievement for most people met? Many of the late Boston crew might be tempted to return to Geohashing to claim it ;) This seems different than Kevin Bacon (above), but somehow related... --Thomcat 21:03, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
I think it is nice to encourage everybody to meet many other geohashers, and I think 10 would be a fair number, because according to this page not more than 13 (can I count?) users might be able to claim it right away, all others would still have to go for it, but I wouldn't mind setting the number to 15 or 20 if that finds more support (though not higher, because there are very few geohashers in some areas). So please, tell me what you think! --HiroProtagonist 21:51, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- Speaking of areas with few gh'ers, how about 50% of all the gh people in the same graticule? (Or maybe 50% of everybody withing the whole 9 graticules around, to encourage neighbour visiting...) -- CrystyB 22:02, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- Nice idea, but I think it's just too difficult to determine who is from your graticule. Count active geohashers only? What does active mean? Everybody who has ever hashed in your graticule? What if more than the half of these haven't been geohashing since you started the sport? Etc. Thus I would rather want people from less occupied areas to travel further ;) But I will include an honourable mention for that case, and then people can determine themselves what "half" means. --HiroProtagonist 22:14, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- support the achievement, but I don't like the direct ranking. I wouldn't mind static ranks (as in the Decurion-Centurion), which encourage you to go further, but highscore lists always create a false spirit of direct competition. -- relet 13:03, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
- I support the idea, and I agree with relet. Also, I think "Handshake achievement" (or similar) would better describe the achievement - having no other active geohashers nearby doesn't make you less sociable (ok maybe that's because so far I've only met one geohasher who wasn't a drag-along...) --Crox 17:21, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
- Full ack on this. I lived in a graticule with 2 other active geohashers for 9 months before I met either of them because of the unique geography, and the tendency for all of us to be busy at different times. --aperfectring 22:57, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

I guess Handshake achievement (or similar) does make more sense, yes. A Sociable Geohasher achievement would rather refer to the number of drag-alongs you managed, I guess?! Concerning the questions of static ranks versus high-score lists: I do also prefer ranks, but I'm unsure about how to name them?!? My first ideas:
- little finger handshake achievement (for 5-9)
- handshake achievement (10-19)
- golden handshake achievement (20 - ...)
I'll go and rename the achievement as soon as we find good ideas for the ranks, because they should fit together. --HiroProtagonist 16:58, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
Anybody got some good ideas for the (re)naming of the achievement and the ranks, please? --HiroProtagonist 02:20, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
- I (personally) would love to see some spoof of religion. Secret Cult/Sect/Congregation/etc.. but I know this was not that well received in the past. I'm ok with the handshakes, but if anyone has a funnier idea, I'm all for it. -- relet 11:16, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
- And in case we stick with "Handshake achievement" do you find the ranks ("little finger handshake achievement", ...)fitting? --HiroProtagonist 03:52, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Support - I think this is great motivation for geohashers to get out and meet each other. --aperfectring 22:57, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
So do the other geohashers need to live in the surrounding graticules or have I misunderstood something? --Vswe 23:48, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
- No, you just need to meet them. Also: if you are the reason they started geohashing, and they only go geohashing with you, then I would say they don't count. Otherwise they are fair game. --aperfectring 23:54, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
- That's right. Where the geohasher comes from only plays a role for the honourable mention (meet more than half of the geohashers from the nine graticule that form your minesweeper area) which I made for people living in sparsely populated areas.
I'm still not totally happy with the ranks, any cool ideas on this? --HiroProtagonist 00:19, 10 December 2010 (UTC)- Ok, I see. Does 0 out of 0 count as all(it should but that will be strange for an achievement)? In my graticule and the 8 surroundering all expeditions done in the last 6 months is by me. :/ Should there be a minimal number? I have now moved the page and added the ribbons I created. Any further ideas/comments/votes? --HiroProtagonist 22:48, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Support The achievement has support from 4 different graticules, no opposition, and a full page including ribbon. I'll go ahead a move it to the new achievement category. I don't know if this talk page should be deleted, so I'll just leave it.
