Thus, my suggestion: name the 65,27 graticule "Pudasjärvi East, Finland", and rename the existing Pudasjärvi, Finland graticule (aka 65,26) "Pudasjärvi West, Finland" (and maybe create a page for the town, but I don't think such a minor town deserves that... not when both graticules are still virgin anyway).<br>

I totally agree with you. "Pudasjärvi East" and "Pudasjärvi West" sounds good. Let it be so.Isopekka  5 October 2012 (EDT)

Testing pages

By the way, if you want to test your update to a page, you can use the "preview" button to see what it will look like after the update, and you can change your Wiki code and formatting before you commit the new page. (And it saves the wiki from having to keep a lot of extremely minor versions.)

(Some things won't preview correctly, but the only one I have trouble with is the expedition template.) Jiml 01:13, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Echoing what Jim said

When you edit a page, next to the "save page" button there is one marked "show preview". Please learn what it's for!  :-) If you just click "save page" every time you insert two blank lines, or change one word, then it fills up the Recent Changes page with your edits, and it makes it harder for everyone to see which pages have been updated recently. Thanks. -- Benjw 17:03, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Pardon, pardon... Thanks for the advice. Now I understand, and I am trying hard to do everything right. Beginners!

Graticule wide info

You might think about moving your lists of Graticule-wide info to the graticule page instead of your own userpage. (Like the list of active users.) Here in Oregon, we kinda designated the Portland graticule page as the "main" one, and region-wide info and discussions go there. Jiml 16:07, 3 January 2011 (EST)

Italy meets Finland(well,maybe...)

Hi Isopekka!Although i'm a new italian geohasher(one of the few),i would like to arrange some meetups for August in Finland.Crazy? No!:I'm going to a language course with AFS in Finland and it would be nice to do some extra-national expeditions and meet some other geohashers(in italy there aren't many other geo#ers to meet ).So if the idea interest you please answer me on the discussion place!Bye and good hashes!

Great idea!

Send an e-mail to geo.isopekka@luukku.com. Lets meet in August!

Naming the 65,27 graticule

I guessed I should ask you because you're the local active geohasher around there :-)
I am currently on a sort-of quest to name as many land graticules as I could (well, propose a name anyway, I won't dare to actually name until I'm reasonably sure nobody major will object), especially in Russia and places close.
And in my search for yet-unnamed graticules I noticed 65,27 - which appears to have been unofficially named on its similarly-unofficial page, but doesn't even show up on the World Map of All Graticules... which presumably means it isn't mentioned on the wiki's All Graticules pages either.
So of course the first think I did was to check whether there was any towns in this graticule. And a Wikipedia search turned up (seemingly due to the Finnish naming of municipalities as "towns" more than anything, but that's beside the point) exactly one... Pudasjärvi, divided right in half by the graticule border (English Wikipedia in fact puts its coordinates exactly on the border; other sources suggest 10 arc seconds west of it, which at this latitude means around 120 meters into the other graticule).
Okay, thought I, so we already have a Pudasjärvi graticule (it's 65,26 - the one it's 120 meters into). But the town is divided almost exactly in half by the border (I mean, seriously, 120 meters?), and there's no obvious name for 65,27 anyway, so why not make Pudasjärvi a "split city"?
Thus, my suggestion: name the 65,27 graticule "Pudasjärvi East, Finland", and rename the existing Pudasjärvi, Finland graticule (aka 65,26) "Pudasjärvi West, Finland" (and maybe create a page for the town, but I don't think such a minor town deserves that... not when both graticules are still virgin anyway).
Now, any comments? Oh, and sorry for such a long post :-)

I didn't realize you had a discussion on this, but I started linking everything to "Syöte, Finland". That was the name of the page at the end of the redirect. I'm changing them to "Pudasjärvi East, Finland" now, and I'll rename the Pudasjärvi, Finland graticule page to Pudasjärvi West, Finland. -- Jevanyn (talk) 13:38, 31 December 2013 (EST)
