Expedition

When I decided to go to this geohash- finally, one in the Chicago graticule that was accessible, on a day when I could access it!- it was 103 degrees out. I had been considering flying a kite at the hashpoint, but the heat made me decide against it. It was a simple plan- go with my mother and friend/guest photographer Momo to the area, get pictures of us reaching the coordinates and of going the speed limit, then maybe explore the area a bit.

On our way to the hash, we drove through the part of Bensenville that was once normal houses and businesses, but was cleared out and demolished to make way for an expansion of O'Hare airport. Last I knew the empty buildings were still there, but they had since been removed. I took some pictures of the piles of rubble anyway.

On our first attempt to get to the hashpoints, somebody was tailgating us in the narrow road, so we doubled back. I had been planning on staying in the car the whole time, but instead my mother parked across the street, and Momo and I got out. The hashpoint was around where a driveway met the road, and an idling truck was just within the driveway. I considered telling its owner about the situation to prevent them from suffering from the curse of unawareness, but didn't see them and didn't bother searching much.

Also, on the way to the hash it had started drizzling, and the 103 degree heat faded to a mere 85 degrees. It wasn't raining at the hashpoint, so maybe I could've flown that kite after all. The Speed Racer achievement was fairly easy, though it did require some quick acceleration since the road wasn't terribly long. Afterwards, we got ice cream at Coldstone, which has nothing to do with the hash but was delicious. I meant to take a photo of the hashpoint, but I thought Momo had- if she did, she didn't share it with me. Ah well, that's what Google Street View is for!
