Expedition

Eavan had expressed some interest, or at least willingness, to go a'hashing, and when I saw that today's mark was potentially reachable, we agreed to give it a go in the morning.

I actually thought our odds were poor. "Shillapoo Wildlife Recreation Area" sounds like public land, but I could tell that the access point from highway 501 was gated and that the actual hashpoint was in cultivated land of some kind. Happily, the gate prohibited motor vehicles, lead shot, and dog training before April 15, but gave no prohibitions against geohashing. The road in was damp but not too muddy. The cultivated field had grown corn recently, but was laying fallow and had no keep-off markings. So, we tramped out to the hashpoint, and reached it with no particular problem.

A flock of ducks, or geese, or something, took off at our approach, and this was distressing to a nearby duo of birders with very expensive cameras. Apologies were declined with the kind of scorn reserved for people who can't get it through their heads that their hobbies aren't nearly as important as one's own hobby. I confess I was guilty as charged.
