Expedition

Expedition two of two spanning midnight. 2015-05-18 52 1 2015-05-19 52 1

There was a place to park next to the main line railway from London to Norwich. A concrete lane ran parallel to the railway tracks. I followed this to a point about 75 metres from the hashpoint. There was a steep bank made of granite ballast and a fence at the bottom. The bank was not high so I clambered down. The fence had two lines of barbed wire with a plain wire in the middle. This should be easy to squeeze through.

!*&#@! **@~!! it was a live electric fence. Add electrocution to my list of geohashing experiences.

I backtracked to the railway crossing bridge and took another lane towards the river Gipping. Here a public footpath ran parallel to the river and through the same field containing the hashpoint. This route was not electrified and, from here, it was easy to home in on the hash. During the walk, two diesel freight trains passed and one electric hauled passenger train. I arrived 25 minutes later than my planned time. Google maps route planning usually estimates the time very well but not today.
