The Hood is a small sand dune area. There is a long shingle spit parallel with the coast. There are mud flats and salt marshes inland. I had to cross 160 metres of salt marsh. At the hashpoint I got some photos. In that short time, the creeks turned from still water to fast flowing incoming tide. This is where planning and local knowledge is critical. I headed towards the sea and regained the shingle spit before I was cut off. Someone with no local knowledge could have headed towards the mainland but they would be cut off by deep fast flowing tidal creeks. | ||

In the end, I had to walk on the soft shingle which is much harder work with feet sinking into the loose stones on every pace. I would not have missed this though.
