Expedition

I took a few days off and decided to "follow the auguries" on Friday. The auguries pointed me towards 2019-03-23 43 -120 and 2019-03-23 42 -120, so I set up base camp at the Econolodge in Prineville on Friday afternoon and then, kind of as an afterthought, drove east of town to try for this one. I didn't do nearly enough homework, though, so I headed out off the net without a good mental map of the area.

I remembered that the hashpoint was down a National Forest road that veers off south of Highway US 26, and found that with no trouble. I DIDN'T remember that it is also down a much smaller road, possibly just a trail, that veers south off of the Forest Service road. Accordingly, my GPS started pointing more and more insistently to the right, and then behind and to the right. I was so disoriented that I thought I had put in the wrong coordinates, but there was no way to find out. So, I headed back to town to figure out what I did wrong.

Even if I had been better organized, it's unlikely I could have made it to the hashpoint. Except for the main road, there was about a foot and a half of snow on the ground that would have been awfully hard to get through.

Achievements

This is kind of a "Not reached - Mother Nature," but also very much "Not reached - I'm a bonehead."
