Today's Location: Erie, Pennsylvania
The Erie graticule is at latitude 42, longitude -80. It includes much of northwestern Erie County, including most of the City of Erie, Fairview, and northern parts of Girard, which is bisected by the 42nd parallel. It also includes southeastern portions of Ontario, Canada, including Simcoe, Delhi, and Long Point. Much of the graticule is covered by territorial waters of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Ontario in Lake Erie.
The international boundary will also make Geohashing difficult in this graticule. For cases where the hashpoint falls in water, alternative graticules can be used based on convenience:
- Canadian alternatives
- London South (including West Lorne and Ridgetown)
- Waterloo (including Brantford and Kitchener)
- American alternatives
- Dunkirk, NY (including Jamestown, NY and North East, PA)
- Youngstown, OH (including Ashtabula, OH; Meadville, PA; and Grove City, PA)
- Oil City, PA (including Franklin, PA and Warren, PA)
